Being the boss of yourself is a dream for numerous people; it is though a big step, especially if you are used to work under someone else. However daunting it may sound, being self employed has many advantages.

Needless to say, you have more freedom and flexibility. You will not be working under the strict surveillance of your boss and you won’t have to put up with incompetent or annoying colleagues and supervisors. You can adjust your time schedule the way that suits you the best. If you are sick, you can stay in bed all day without feeling compelled to find someone else to replace you. You can manage your time the way you want, adjusting the work to fit your life, rather than the opposite – which we need to do when working for normal companies and businesses.
You can control and determine your personal and business development the way it suits you. You will not be obliged to follow your boss’s orders, or learn things that others want you to learn. You can do what you have always wanted to do: if your dream was to set up a particular kind of business, own a café, start an online business, or a home based business, you can actually do it.
You will have time to spend with your family. Being self employed doesn’t mean that you don’t have to work; on the contrary: the more you work the more you can potentially earn, but you can always determine when not to work. You can take off of work if it needed, so as to go to your kids’ game or theatrical show, spend some time with them while they are at home, and spend some quality time with your partner. You can also choose when to go on holidays or take some time off. You are the one who decides. Being self employed you can keep all the money that you earn. You are not on a salary anymore, which means that you are more motivated to work harder, since the bigger amount will end up in your pocket. If you are working as a freelancer or you are producing some intellectual work you can keep the material, as your intellectual property.
Self employed people usually do not have a limit in their earnings, unless they decide to. If you want to set a monthly goal, which is realistic and can bring some good revenues, you are completely free to do so.

I’m courious to know how long you’ve “been your own boss”?
The reality is thinking like this is whats gets “wannabe business owners” in trouble. Yeah , hey I don’t feel so good so I think I’ll just stay home all day and do nothing. As you go further in your so-called business (hobby) you will learn that the very stucture that you define negativly (i.e. working for a boss) is the very structure you will have to apply to your own business- or it will fail! Profitable business owners apply 3-5 times more stucture to their business than “normal companies”. “Your living in fairytal land where you like the idea of being a business owner but you have’nt really become one yet. Im not tearing you down, just giving you the same sound advice I was given when I got my start in business. Steve – Professional business coach.
I was thinking about freelancing as an option and there you mentioned it at the end, yes freelancing also offers a lot of flexibility and good earning potential to the workers who just doesn’t want 9 to 5 jobs. You may have a boss but you cannot get everything in one basket hehe! Running any business isn’t that easy and you’ve to work very hard…probably much harder than your job but it’s also highly rewarding if you’re putting up efforts in the correct direction.
