Which group of people are you?

by Derek on August 24, 2008

In the world of working adults i.e, the business world, there are two different groups of people. One is the group of people that make use of others, the other consists the group of people who are being make used of. Which one do you belong to? I understood this theory after working as an intern in some companies and a few part time jobs over the years. So, let’s talk about the first group of people.

People that make use of others

This group of people normally consists of entrepreneurs, business owners, venture capitalist or even managers. This people usually benefit the most while putting the least effort, compared to others. They play with money instead of being played by money. For me, i hate people of this group but however, i wanted to be one of them. Though i hate them, i actually admire them. That’s pretty contradicting right? Ok, imagine you are the boss and you have people working for you and being paid the pennies, won’t you feel great? Now, imagine you are the employee and you are being paid pennies for so much you done. I am pretty sure you will be angry and will have a strike to increase your pay. You get the point? Have you ever watched a japanese drama called “Dragon Zakura”. In this particular drama, it emphasizes on how “stupid people” are being cheated by the “smarter people” and how the “smarter people” rules the society by creating laws and rules that benefits themselves (Note: I am not making any comments of the government). Ok, now let’s talk about the other group which consists of majority including me.

People that are being make used of

If you are in this group and you are the same as me, let’s not be depressed. We might be being make used of now but not forever. Let me give you an example how the company make use of us. Imagine youself as a designer that work for a designing company. Your monthly pay is $2000 and in every month, you completed maybe a maximum of 5 projects. Let’s say each project cost $2500 ( your company might not tell you this, afterall you are get paid monthly just to do what you are supposed to do). In this case, your company earn ($2500 x 5) which is equals to $12500 and offsetting your wages of $2000, they make a net profit of $10500. So now calculate how much a typical company with 30 employees can make monthly? However, if you can create so much  wealth for your company and you are just being paid $2000, you have every right to request for a pay rise and if your boss reject, quit it. If you are working for this type of company, you will have no future. Trust me.

Evolving from the second group

Now comes another group of people that are evolved from this group. This group of people are the ones that cannot stand it and decided to advance or level up themselves to the first group. Normally, this group of people are being most hated by the first group. People in this group learn and leech all information and social networks in a company and then they start their own with modified technology that are even better. Have you ever wondered why coca cola taste so alike to pepsi? A recent example will be Cuil search company which rivaled google. For more information, it’s started by ex employees of google.

So which group are you in and which group you want to be in? Any views or insights regarding this post today will greatly be welcomed.

I’m unsure which group I am in – I can’t say I’m in the second but I can’t say I’m in the first either
