Using twitter to drive traffic to your blog

by Ali Hussain on February 14, 2009

Just a few days ago, i signed up for twitter, which is a micro blogging platform that allows friends, family or anyone to communicate and connect with each other through a simple sentence that is within a character limit of 140 characters.

Currently, i am experimenting with twitter to drive traffic to my blogs. Driving traffic using twitter seems to be more easy then using others social networks like myspace. One of the primary reason is that twitter interface is very simple and neat. You simply just get followed, or be a follower. Once you have followers, your followers will be able to get updated to your tweets.

E.g. If you posted “i am tired”, your followers will be able to see it.

So ultimately, how do people use twitter as a medium to drive traffic to their blogs? Here’s a simple step by step guide by me. :)

Getting started

1) You sign up for at twitter.com

2) Go here and become a follower of me.

3) You add all my followers and the people i am following.

4) Most probably, you have to wait for 1 to 2 days, and you will get @replies from people telling you that thank you for following, they will follow you back.

Getting Traffic

6) Every now and then when you post an blog entry, tweet it and let your follower knows.

e.g. Learn how to flip a website at http://tinyurl.com/bvzt6d

( Notice that it is an tiny url? Twitter shorten url posted using tinyurl.com)

Happy adding and tweeting and hope to see you around at twitter.

Not 140 words limit . Those are 140 characters in fact ?

Anyhow, Useful post and blog is useful too. I’m starting an SEO blog on custom domain and I hope we will remain in touch with one another. For now I’m blogging on blogspot blog.

I agree to your point. According to me, social bookmarking sites like twitter.com, digg.com, diigo.com, stumbleupon.com helps a lot in building traffic to a site.
