How to Sell a Website

by Derek on August 25, 2008

Selling a website is no easy task. Of course, you don’t want to just give out all of your hard work for a price you would only reluctantly accept. However, what if there’s no market demand for your website at all?

Ultimately, what buyers need to understand is that the price they get all comes down to market demand. If someone in the market is looking to strategically acquire websites, of course you will be able to obtain premiums. However, it’s not always easy to determine whether someone is looking for a strategic acquisition or a mere portfolio expansion. Most naive buyers will be blatant about it, but it’s not always the case. Strong negotiation skills and a background in psychology will help you tremendously here.

In most cases, website valuation involves the income, traffic, domain, and other such factors. When selling websites, nothing is absolute. While an appraiser may give you a rough estimate, buyers may nitpick some factors over others.

Unlike real estate, in the world of buying and selling websites, the price can fluctuate wildly from one day to the next. It’s your job to keep everything stable throughout the span of the sale.

Hi, i make a living online by flipping websites and there’s one thing that i want to add. Over the years of selling websites, the most important thing that i learned is to provide a business proposal for the website you are selling. This will build up the credibility and attract more potential buyers.

I strongly recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section.

I’ll watch Google Webmaster Tools, and if the links don’t show up after a couple of weeks — I won’t go back to that blog again.

Another suggestion: you should have a Top Commentator widget installed.

Do Follow and Top Commentator will ensure that you have a successful blog with lots of readers!
