Buying / Selling Domain Names?

by Derek on January 27, 2008

Since the advent of internet, billions of domains had been registered and billions of website had been developed. Over these years, Buying/Selling domain names has actually become a profession.

Sounds easy right? You bought one domain e.g example.com for $50 dollars and sold it for $100 dollars and you earn a profit of $50. It may be easy in the past when the market is unsaturated. But today, i believed that the domain market is becoming more saturated and saturated as most of the “premium names” are registered. One will needs to take alot of time to research for keywords etc.

More domain extension are also available, such as .net, .org, .info, .mobi and the recently .asia and many more.

Instead of just buying/selling domains, companies like Sedo.com offered services such as domain parking. So what is domain parking? Heres an explanation. The domain owner pointed the nameservers of their domains(e.g www.example.com) to Sedo. So when visitors visit the domain name(www.example.com), they will be brought to Sedo parking webpage. This webpage mainly contain advertisments and once visitors clicked on the advertisements, the domain owner will be paid. :)

domaining is a lot harder these days. there are a lot of big players who register all the best domains and snap up valuable expiring domains before the avergage domainer has a chance. that said it is still possible to make money in the domain game. the trick is really spotting something with potential and then adding value to that domain.
